New Stories, Questions

  1.  What should we name the beasties that are wreaking such havoc on humanity?
  2. What should we name the narrator?
  3. Timewise, from the beginning of the story to the end, how much should have passed?
  4. Lenghtwise, going on to long or more?
  5. I was thinking of never offering an explanation of how the things got here. Thoughts?
  6. Should life in the camp have more detail?

The end is coming soon. Then I will begin the rewrite with more detail and more dialog, and a more cohesive timeline.

Take Care,
Mike

  1. No, I want to know where they came from. I believe aliens put them on Earth as a means of cleansing the Earth of mankind. Only the aliens know why this is desirable.

    1. Hmmmm, that's certainly one way of looking at it. Any idea as to what we might call them?

  2. If they can teleport around the world, no reason they could not teleport from another planet. However if they teleported at random into space, most would die in the vacuum or sun. They are the ultimate predator. Once one of them finds a suitable planet, they feed, breed/divide until they have filled the planet and eaten everything eatable. Once they start to starve, the group organism (like bees or example), initiates a mass exodus. They all teleport at random, maxim distance. Almost all die, but only one needs to find a suitable planet for the species to continue. They may even form a spore like case after the teleport, drifting thru space until they encounter a planet.

  3. I like this. Locust like, they move in, feed leave. The old and weak are left to starve or be killed.

  4. 1. Hmm
    2. What's in a name?
    3. What are the parameters? This would be a thinker, actually. How quickly from what happened would it take to regroup this far?
    4. Not going on too long, but it's okay to take a nap sometimes!
    5. You know, by now how they got here is irrelevant to me. Keep that as the ace in your sleeve. Remember the end of Planet Of The Apes?
    6. No, just enough detail as needed. OCD minds like me will thank you. But it also depends on what you're going for.

I've been following along, I was pulled into it. These are just my honest answers after finishing reading. Thanks for asking!

  5. Timing is a bitch. Look at it like this: how much time has to pass for relationships to form? Between leader and followers, lovers and lovers, and from one event to the next? There’s a lot of devices to mark time, deaths, victories, and passion, but spacing it out where it makes sense yet keeps things moving...

I’ve got two endings in mind.

  6. Relationships don’t require a set time frame. You could have a meeting of an hour and everyone knows what must be done and the best person/people to do each task. Or the meeting could go on for days with politics and power plays.
Personal relationships too. Sometimes you meet someone and like them instantly. Other times they’re just some one you know but over time you become impressed with.
Of course the little head makes snap decisions.

  7. Yeah, I’ll but that. Especially in times of great stress, but I also have to ease some of the minor characters in rather than dump them all at once.
